Links to other services

We use external services to support Census 2021.

We have integrated the GOV.UK Notify API (opens in a new tab)  (application programming interface) to send out letters, texts and emails. This is how we send you access codes for the census or confirmation emails when you have completed it. You can read about GOV.UK Notify’s security features (opens in a new tab)  and GOV.UK Notify’s own terms of use (opens in a new tab) . We have official sender identities when sending text messages and emails. The text messages we send through GOV.UK Notify come from Census2021. The emails we send through GOV.UK Notify come from census.2021@notifications.service.gov.uk

Our supplier, Serco Limited (opens in a new tab) , runs the contact centre for the public. This includes phone calls, web chat, email and a text message service. Serco records calls to the contact centre to improve the service for customers. Our Privacy and data protection statement has further details about this. You can also read Serco’s Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab) . Users of web chat will not receive an automatic transcript of their conversation. To request one, please contact us (opens in a new tab) .

We use an address index when you enter your postcode into the census questionnaire to search for an address, for example, where you live, stay or work. Our address index was created using Ordnance Survey (OS) (opens in a new tab)  data. It is subject to Crown copyright and database rights 2020 OS 100019153. Use of this data is subject to the following conditions by way of exception to the standard Open Government Licence.

Terms and conditions for OS address data

  1. You are granted a non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable licence solely to view the addressing data for non-commercial purposes for the period during which we make it available
  2. You are not permitted to copy, sub-license, distribute, sell or otherwise make available such data to third parties in any form
  3. Third-party rights to enforce the terms of this licence shall be reserved to OS

The OS copyrights acknowledgements page (opens in a new tab)  provides further information on OS licensing.

You can find out more information about how we use and protect your data collected by any of the services we have integrated into census.gov.uk in our Privacy and data protection statement.
