V4. What is this person's usual UK address?

Why we ask this question

Your answer helps us to make sure we haven't missed anyone. If your visitors live elsewhere in the UK it's important that they fill in a form for their usual address too. If they don't, they will be missed from their area's population numbers, which affects how much money their local authority receives from the government. By including your visitors, you're helping us to make sure that the population counts for their local authority are as accurate as we can make them.

Visitors from Scotland will be able to fill in their census forms during Scotland's Census in 2022.

The census has asked for details of everyone staying in a household on Census Day, including visitors, since 1841.

Include all visitors who usually live somewhere else, who were staying overnight at your address on Sunday 21 March 2021. It's important to do this even if you think they may have been included on a census form at another address.

Give your visitor's usual UK address. If you don't know the full address, give as much of it as you can. For example, the town or city.

If your visitor usually lives on a military base in the UK, only give the postcode, not the full address.

If they don't usually live in the UK, give the name of the country where they usually live.

If you have more than one visitor, you will see an option to select the same address as the first visitor. If you select this option, you don't need to fill in the address again.

Visitors with no usual address

If someone visiting you has no other usual address, include them as usually living at your address, even if they’re only staying for one night.

This means you should include them in the list of people who live here in the household questions and complete their individual questions.

Your answers are confidential

We use the information we collect in the census solely to produce statistics and for statistical research. No one will use your personal information to sell you anything or find you, and government staff that directly serve the public cannot see it.
