Advice for families at home
If someone who lives here is in prison or a young offender institution, this will help you decide whether to include them on your household form.
If someone who usually lives here is:
Convicted and in prison or a young offender institution on Sunday 21 March 2021
They should be included on the household form if their sentence is less than 12 months.
They shouldn't be included if:
- their sentence is 12 months or more, or
- they’re awaiting sentencing following their conviction
Currently on remand
They should be included on the household form if they’re being held, but have not been convicted of an offence.
They shouldn't be included if they’ve been convicted of an offence and are waiting for their sentence to be confirmed. In this case, they will be counted at the place where they’re being held.
